MY WORK
At a young age I discovered a love for Willie Nelson which led me to want to work in the country music industry. I attended college and after graduating, started working as a disc jockey aka air personality at a small country radio station. I worked my way up to program director at a medium size station and after ten years was offered a job at a division of MCA Records. I switched to the record side, working for companies like MCA and Warner before joining a startup label, Broken Bow Records. From 2001 through the present, I have promoted Broken Bow artists like the reigning ACM Artist of the Decade Jason Aldean, Dustin Lynch, Chase Rice, Craig Morgan, Tyler Farr, Lainey Wilson and Everette.
People often say, “you have the coolest job. But what do you actually do?” The best way to explain it is this: there are around 175 radio stations across the country that report the songs they play to either Billboard or Mediabase. The song getting the most amount of airplay goes to #1. My job, along with a team of people, is to get those radio stations to play our songs more than anyone else’s. Thereby, reaching the summit of the chart for a #1.
At Broken Bow, I’ve worked thirty-four #1 songs, numerous Top 5 and Top 10 hits, and seen our artists win multiple awards and reach platinum sales status. Jason Aldean won the ACM Entertainer Of The Year Award three times in a row before being named the ACM Artist of the Decade. He is the crown jewel of my career and I couldn’t be prouder of what we’ve accomplished.
I spend a lot of time on tour, facilitating meetings between radio programmers and the artists. From the small club dates, to the fairs and festivals to the headlining tours, it’s always exciting to hear live music and feel the reaction of the fans.
